AIM Composure®
Details
Neuro Health
The nervous system controls communication in the body. Its leader
is the brain, which allows us to think, decide, control our actions,
and coordinate the ability to move, touch, smell, hear, and see. Like
with any body system, good nutrition plays an important part in seeing
that the good health of the nervous system is maintained. AIM Composure®
helps maintain your neuro health, especially in regard to dealing efficiently
with stress.
Stress
A drop of water falling in the same spot over a period of time will
eventually begin to erode the surface it is impacting whether concrete,
rock, wood, or other substances.
Stress and lack of rest are very much like that drop of water falling
on the surface of our body, mind, and emotions. Its effect is cumulative
and, if left unchecked, can disrupt any or every part of our lives depending
on its intensity.
What is stress?
Stress is that tension caused when our response to what is happening
in a given moment ignites our “flight or fight” mechanism to one degree
or another. Stress can be useful in small, managed doses.
For example, the “stress” of seeing the finish line may cause an
athlete to experience a burst of speed in the race for the finish. However,
undue stress is stress above and beyond that which we were created to
endure. It occurs when we tax our bodies beyond their normal limits
on a continual basis. Undue stress occurs when we work too much, sleep
too little, struggle with family, work and social obligations, deprive
our body of needed nutrients or experience injuries.
When we experience stress, the adrenal glands release cortisol, a
hormone designed to help our body utilize proteins, carbohydrates and
fats to produce the energy to respond to whatever is causing the stress.
Normally, cortisol levels are higher in the morning and diminish
during the day allowing us to rest in the evening. However, when our
stress continues through the day, demanding increased amounts of cortisol,
adrenal exhaustion and unnaturally high levels of cortisol can result
in sleeplessness, blood sugar irregularities, high blood pressure, fat
accumulation, exhaustion and more.3
In one way or another, everyone experiences stress. And in the 21st
century, stress levels seem to be rising. Why?
Perhaps the greatest cause of accumulated stress is the 24/7 lifestyle.
In agrarian times, we got up with the sun and went to bed with the sun.
Although stresses still occurred, our body and mind had time to rejuvenate.
Today, the sun goes down, we turn the lights on and continue to push
late into the evening. Our bodies may cry for rest and sleep, but our
tyrannical schedule demands more output.
One of the first casualties of stress is often our sleep patterns.
After a 12-hour work day, four hours of dinner, children, bedtime, and
a few hours of “catch-up” time, we fall into bed, and our mind begins
to race. Too much stimulation, too little down time, and we are not
ready for sleep when our body craves it. Dr. Ward Flemons, director
of the Lung Association Sleep Centre at Calgary Foothills Hospital,
says, “Fatigue is a more common cause of traffic accidents than alcohol
or prescription drugs.” He further states that only 30 - 40% of Canadians
receive sufficient sleep.4
Yet, sleep is the first bastion against overwhelming stress. Thus,
a vicious cycle begins. Stress leads to sleeplessness which leads to
less ability to handle stress which leads to sleeplessness and on and
on.
Is there a solution? There are many choices we can make to reduce
stress, but for most of us those choices will take time and effort to
implement. We need relief right now to break the vicious stress/sleeplessness
cycle.
AIM Composure® can help.
The three botanicals in AIM Composure® work synergistically to provide
a safe and effective formula to relax muscles and calm nerves, reduce
restlessness and feelings of anxiety, and promote sleep. This time-tested
formula has been approved by the German Federal Health Agency’s Commission
E in their monographs, which is recognized worldwide as a premier authority
on herbal/botanical formulas for health.
Each ingredient has a pedigree of safe and consistent contribution
to calming the body and mind and promoting restful sleep.
Valerian root
Valerian root has been used for centuries to enhance sleep and soothe
anxiety. In fact, valerian was considered to have so many healing properties
during medieval times, its common name was “All Heal.” Today, the majority
of valerian research has centered on its ability to aid in establishing
healthy sleep patterns. Research has shown that, when taken consistently
for at least 8 days to two weeks, study participants demonstrate significant
improvement in the ability to fall asleep and reach deep sleep for maximum
rest.5
Valerian’s affect on anxiety is less emphasized but well-known over
centuries of use to relieve nervousness, agitation and general restlessness.
Current research on valerian’s axiolytic (ability to relieve anxiety)
properties is ongoing. However, the calming affect of valerian has been
attested to since the days of the ancient Greek botanist Dioscorides.
Passionflower
As early as the 1840s, passionflower, an herb native to North America,
was recognized for its calming effects. In 1898, Dr. John Uri Lloyd
wrote, “It [passionflower] proves specifically useful in the insomnia
of infants and old people. It gives sleep to those who are laboring
under the effects of mental worry or from mental overwork.”6
Currently, passionflower continues to be used to relieve tension
as well as to soothe r e s t l e s s n e s s that may lead to anxiety
and sleeplessness.
Hops flowers
Hops flowers have a long and varied history associated with healing.
Today, hops is best known for its quality as a sleep aid, inducing a
relaxing sleep without side effects. In fact, hops are often included
in “sleep pillows” to contribute to relaxation in sleep. It is interesting
to note that European herbalists recognize hops as a digestive aid and
antibiotic, as well.
The potent combination of valerian root, passionflower and hops flowers
makes AIM Composure® a safe and effective choice for reducing tension
and promoting healthy, restful sleep. If you have difficulty “switching
off” at the end of the day, try AIM Composure®.

Q & A
Will this product make me sleepy?
If I take AIM Composure® before bed, will I be groggy in the morning?
-
This product is most effective for relaxation and helping to
reach restful sleep. Most individuals do not experience grogginess
upon waking. An Australian double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover
trial compared the effects of valerian root (1000 mg or 500 mg),
the drug Triazolan, and a placebo. Results confirmed that while
Triazolan had detrimental effects on cognitive processes, the valerian
did not. “Unlike the benzodiazepine drugs, valerian clearly does
not cause sedation or impairment of functioning in healthy volunteers.
This could be attributed to valerian having no activity on the nervous
system.”7
Can I take AIM Composure® with other products?
Is it okay to take AIM Composure® during the day, or should I take
it only at night?
Is AIM Composure® habit-forming?
